Child Play, the complete children's drama program - "children can do everything "

The Witches

Synopsis:

Child Players ACT’s Child Play children’s theatre group production in the July school holidays 2014 will be Roald Dahl’s classic The Witches. This exciting production will be the ninth July production by the Child Play group.

Child Play is a unique theatre training program created by BJ Anyos, our Artistic Director, which this year provides 42 children aged between 10-17 the opportunity to learn all aspects of theatre, both on-stage and back-stage. Participants are formed into three casts with each child having a major role, a minor role and a back-stage job. The back-stage jobs include stage management, lighting and sound, props, make-up, set moving and puppeteering.

Have you ever seen a witch? Now, when I say witch, I don't mean a fairytale witch with a black hat riding on a broomstick. Oh no! I mean a REAL witch. Our story is about REAL witches. They are easily the most dangerous creatures on Earth, especially to children. They will squelch a child or make it disappear. What makes them doubly dangerous is that they don't look dangerous. REAL witches dress in ordinary clothes and look very much like ordinary woman. No child will last long in this world if they don't know how to spot a REAL witch when they see one. When you come along and see The Witches you will learn the clues which will help you recognise a REAL witch. You will see how one young boy finds out more than he ever wanted to know about REAL witches. Join this brave boy and his Grandmother as they take on not only all the witches in England but also the Grand High Witch of all the World.

The Witches will be performed at theatre@bcs, Belconnen Community Centre, Swanson Court, Belconnen at 10.30am and 2.00pm on Thursday 10, Friday 11 and Saturday 12 July in the first week of the holidays and continue in the second week on Tuesday 15 at 10.30am only and then at 10.30am and 2.00pm from Wednesday 16 to Saturday 19 July.Tickets are still only $17 with reductions for families and groups of 10+ and bookings can be made either through ringing 6257 1950 (Monday – Friday, 10am – 4pm) or by visiting www.canberrarep.org.au.
