Child Play, the complete children's drama program - "children can do everything "

School Holiday Program

January 2017 drama program and production

Snow White

Child Players ACT will again be running our unique school holiday drama program for two weeks from Monday 8 January to Saturday 20 January 2018. What makes these two-week programs special is the opportunity to perform a full-scale production in a real theatre with only a two-week commitment. This is made possible because the set, costumes and props will be completed before the program begins and it has been proven many times that the children participating in the program are able to learn, rehearse and perform these productions to a very high standard in this time frame. This two-week school holiday drama program and production is open to children aged 8-16 who want to have fun, learn a lot about theatre, make new friends and perform in a theatre production in Repertory’s Theatre 3 in Acton in January 2018. While the production is a musical, no singing or dancing ability is required.

About the program: Each day of the program will begin with the children doing warm-up activities and playing drama games. The rest of the day will be involved in rehearsing the production. During the rehearsal time the participants will also be learning various theatre skills including singing, movement, characterisation and voice projection. Instruction, rehearsals and performances will be held from 10am - 4.00pm each day - Monday to Friday in the first week and Monday to Saturday in the second week. If working parents need to drop children off outside these times, supervision will be provided from 9.00-10.00am and 4.00-5.00pm. A small additional charge of $5 per day will apply for this supervision and should be paid on the first day of the program. The first week (8-12 January) will be held at the Downer Community Centre, Frencham Court, Downer. The second week (15-20 January) will be held at Theatre 3, Acton. The program will end with the children performing eight shows for families, friends and the general public at Theatre 3 at 11.00am and 2.00pm from 17-20 January 2018.

The program will be directed by BJ Anyos, the Artistic Director of Child Players ACT, assisted by experienced children’s drama practitioners and teen helpers. The music has been arranged by Georgia Pike, the Musical Director, who will also be assisting with the rehearsals.

The children will need to bring lunch, snacks, a water bottle and a hat to every session. We have a nut-free policy for all our programs. Everyone should wear comfortable clothes, preferably shorts (not skirts), and should not wear jewellery or bring any valuables to the venues. No-one will be allowed to leave either the Downer Community Centre or the Theatre to buy food or for any other purpose except with a guardian and must be signed in and out by a parent or nominated guardian. All participants will be required to attend every day between Monday 8 January and Friday 12 January and then in the second week from Monday 15 to Saturday 20 January. There cannot be any part-time participation. It would be appreciated if people could arrive 15 minutes before the starting time to ensure that sessions begin on time.

About the production: The production will be a new musical adaptation of this classic story with music arranged by Georgia Pike and script and lyrics by BJ and Georgia. The production is sure to be a lot of fun both for the participants and audiences. There will be roles suitable for all age groups and experience levels. The children will be supported on stage by experienced teen performers.

The cost of the two-week program and production is $450 per child. A deduction of $30 is available for any additional children from the same family. No other costs are involved, however children will need to provide their own plain black, rubber-soled shoes (“happy” shoes, school shoes, etc). If any other items of clothing are required parents will be notified in the first couple of days.
